Estimator Responsibilities
Reports to Estimating Manger Typical Work Hours 7:30-4PM
Overview
Assists in the preparation of complete construction cost estimates for HVAC
systems projects. Estimating the cost of the project is the basic step in ensuring the successful implementation of the proposed plans of action for any project.
Principal Responsibilities
- Typical responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Estimate the cost of labor and material of a job to pursue a sale.
- Read through Specs, Narratives and Addendum for understanding the material and equipment needed for a job
- Update job-based spreadsheets to include the reports printed out from the Take-Offs, including any and all breakouts, alternates, and glycol systems.
- Research and refer bid opportunities to the estimating department
- Prepares work to be estimated by gathering proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
- Identifies labor, material, and time requirements by studying proposals, blueprints, specifications, and related documents.
- Computes costs by analyzing labor, material, and time requirements.
- Resolves discrepancies by collecting and analyzing information.
- Presents prepared estimates by assembling and displaying numerical and descriptive information.
- Prepares special reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends.
- Maintains cost database by entering and backing up data.
- Maintains technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing technical publications.
- Contributes to team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.
- Reviews and puts together project estimates to support RFP requirements.
- Prepares bid proposals along with necessary bid requirements (i.e., work plans, schedules and bid breakdowns).
- Prepares list, communicates and obtains quotations for subcontractors and/or Suppliers to complete the bid process.
- Ensures that all services will meet contract standards and the customer's reasonable
- expectations.
- Contacts suppliers, vendors & manufacturers to identify material and equipment pricing to support the estimate.
- Estimating to include HVAC piping and quotations from subcontractors and/or Suppliers to complete the bid process.
- Submits for bid bonds as required.
- Assists project managers and senior estimators with putting together estimates and pricing.
- Participates in pre-bid meetings, bid strategy meetings, and post construction meetings as requested.
- Develops positive relationships with customers, subcontractors, vendors, and fellow
- Employees.
- Provide and maintain a safe and clean work environment.
- Other tasks and responsibilities as required to maintain efficient department operations
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science Degree.
- Experience in HVAC Sales required.
- Demonstrated ability to influence different stakeholders
- Great leadership skills to motivate and enhance team members' contributions.
- Excellent initiative and interpersonal communications skills.
- Exceptional communication skills, well developed listening skills, and ability to interpret business and/or client needs
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion and to set priorities and manage competing demands while working independently.
- Demonstrate a reliable, responsive, and positive work ethic with the highest degree of integrity.
